Who we are
Financial Claims Helpline Limited is a private limited company registered in England and Wales under company number 09479421. We were incorporated on 9 March 2015. Our registered office is at Victoria House, 37 Anson Road, Manchester, M14 5DA, and we provide our services only in the United Kingdom.
We are a claims management company. We are authorised and regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority under firm reference number 833418 to carry on regulated claims management activities in relation to financial services and financial product claims. Our permissions and trading names are listed on the Financial Services Register, which you can search at register.fca.org.uk.
We also trade as Car Claim Check. Contact from us under that name is covered by the same authorisation, policies and standards described on this site.
We are a privately owned business. We are not connected to the Financial Conduct Authority, the Financial Ombudsman Service, the Financial Services Compensation Scheme or any government department, and none of them endorses or recommends us. We are not a charity or a free advice service.
The law firm we work with
Our current panel law firm is Locksley Law Solicitors, a trading style of RH Law Ltd, which is authorised and regulated by the Solicitors Regulation Authority under SRA number 659355. You can check its record at www.sra.org.uk.
If we introduce you, the law firm will send you its own client care letter and terms of business. These set out its fees, when they are payable and your cancellation rights, including the 14-day cooling-off period. The law firm will also tell you that it pays us a referral fee for the introduction. That fee does not increase what you pay the law firm.
You are never obliged to use the law firm we introduce. You can choose any solicitor, or you can act for yourself using the free routes described on our home page.
How the process works
-
You get in touch, or we contact you
Most people contact us through one of our websites or by phone. Where we contact you first, it is because you asked us to or because you gave permission through one of our marketing partners. We will tell you where we got your details when we first speak to you.
-
We ask about your agreement
We take a few details about your car finance agreement, for example who the lender was and when you took it out, and check whether it looks like the kind of case a claim could be made about. If it does not, we will say so.
-
We explain your options, including the free ones
Before anything else, you are told in writing that you can complain directly to the business and to the Financial Ombudsman Service for free, what the law firm charges, and how to cancel. You decide what to do next.
-
If you choose to go ahead, we introduce you to the law firm
You sign the law firm's agreement, not ours, and the law firm explains your 14-day cancellation right and any conditions before you sign. Where a soft credit search is needed to find your agreements, it is carried out only with your permission. A soft search does not affect your credit score and is not visible to lenders.
-
The law firm runs the claim and keeps you informed
From this point the law firm is your representative. We keep a record of the introduction and may contact you to check that you have heard from the firm, but we do not run the claim and we cannot give you legal advice about it.
Our standards
- We follow the FCA's Consumer Duty. We act to deliver good outcomes for you: fair value, communications you can understand, and support when you need it.
- We tell you what things cost before you commit, and we tell you every time that you can do this yourself for free.
- We do not use pressure, false urgency or misleading statements about how likely a claim is to succeed or how much you might receive.
- We check that our marketing partners obtained your details lawfully, and we stop using any source that cannot show this.
- We record calls and monitor them for quality and compliance.
- We handle complaints under the FCA's rules. You can take a complaint about us to the Financial Ombudsman Service for free.
- We protect your personal information under UK data protection law and we are registered with the Information Commissioner's Office.
- We do not hold client money and we never ask for payment up front.
If you need extra support
Some people find dealing with financial matters harder for a time, for example because of illness, bereavement, a disability, money worries or a change in circumstances. If that applies to you, please tell us. We can slow things down, explain things again, put things in writing, speak with someone you trust, or contact you in the way that suits you best. Nothing you tell us will be used to your disadvantage.
If you would like someone else to deal with us on your behalf, let us know and we will explain what we need from you to set that up.
Accessibility
We want everyone to be able to use this website. It is built to work with screen readers, keyboard navigation and text enlargement, and it respects reduced-motion preferences and includes no advertising or analytics tracking added by FCHL. If any part of it is difficult for you to use, or you would like the information on it in another format such as large print, contact us and we will help.
